Nicole Kidman has been cast as Queen Atlanna in the upcoming Aquaman Movie, which is being directed by fellow Australian and Insidious director, James Wan.

Interviewing with EW, Kidman explained why she decided to jump back into the genre with this particular film, saying:

The reason why I love [Aquaman] is James Wan is an Australian, and I’ve followed his career since he started. He’s a really good friend of mine, and he offered to let me play Queen Atlanna,” she says. “As soon as he said I could wear mother-of-pearl and be a mermaid warrior, I said I’m done. Please. If there is one thing I have to do in my life, I have to be that. [Laughs] Because, you’ve got to have some fun.

Queen Atlanna debuted in Adventure Comics #260 in a flashback that explains the birth of Aquaman, where an ex-sailor who now works as a lighthouse keeper saw Atlanna caught in a raging hurricane. After rescuing the Atlantian Royalty, the two fell in love, and a year later Atlanna gave birth to a young boy, Aquaman.

Kidman dabbled in the comic sphere back in 1995, playing Dr. Chase Meridian in the critically mixed Batman Forever film that later spawned the even more disliked Batman & Robin. Whether Kidman’s role will be told the same as the comics remain to be seen, but you can catch Kidman now on HBO’s Big Little Lies and in Aquaman, coming 2018.
